My aunt made this soda bread for St Paddy’s Day and it was delicious! Went really well with the briney corned beef.
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp of salt
- 1 ½ tsp of baking soda
- 1 ½ tsp of baking powder
- 2 tsp of sugar
- ¼ cup of wheat germ
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of wheat bran
- 2 cups of whole wheat flour
- 2 cups of buttermilk
Recipe:
- Preheat to 375F
- Grease 8” round baking pan
- Mix dry ingredients then mix in buttermilk
- Shape into a craggy 6” round
- Cut ½” deep, 5” long across the top with a serrated knife
- Bake for 40 minutes or until center is 190F and crust is lightly browned
- Check progress at 20 minutes and rotate pan
- Leave to cool for an hour
